ABOUT

Behavior Specialists of Indiana, LLC (BSI) specializes in the treatment of individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, anxiety, attention deficits, and conduct disorders. We understand the importance of providing individualized care and effective therapy that is based on scientific principles. At BSI, we are committed to providing quality services that promote mental, social and physical health for each individual we serve.

SERVICES

Behavior Specialists of Indiana is located in Valparaiso, Indiana.
We offer a wide range of services to meet the needs of those we serve.

BSI provides behavior support services to those individuals enrolled in the Family Support (FS) and Community Integration and Habilitation (CIH) waivers through Indiana Medicaid. Individuals receiving waiver services are typically diagnosed with an intellectual/developmental disability and/or autism spectrum disorder.  The primary goal of behavior support services is to help individuals achieve maximum independence in their home, work, social, and community settings.

BSI provides behavioral health services to children, adolescents, adults, and families. Behavioral health refers to the emotions and behaviors that affect the overall well-being of an individual or family.  Behavioral health services are designed to teach and reinforce appropriate or adaptive behaviors, while reducing or eliminating maladaptive behaviors.  These goals are achieved by assessing the strengths and difficulties of an individual and/or family, developing a treatment plan, establishing goals, identifying appropriate ways to achieve the goals, and evaluating treatment outcomes.

BSI provides music therapy services to those individuals enrolled in the FS and CIH waivers through Indiana Medicaid, as well as individuals/ organizations choosing to pay for these services privately. The American Music Therapy Association defines music therapy as “the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.”  BSI’s board certified music therapists create therapeutic music experiences specifically to encourage improvement in non-musical goal areas including behavioral, physical, psychological, communicative, sensory, motor, cognitive, and/or social.

BSI provides diagnostic evaluations to identify or rule out a diagnosis for an individual. This analytical assessment includes completion of a developmental, medical, social, and educational history; an interview about behavioral concerns; completion of standardized and informal assessments; observations; and interactions with the individual.  Information obtained in this process is used to determine potential diagnosis(es), provide appropriate resources, and suggest recommendations to achieve positive results.

BSI provides psychological evaluations to children who are enrolled in the First Steps Program (Indiana’s early intervention program for ages 0-3 years).  Children must be referred by an authorized First Steps Service Coordinator due to concerns about behaviors that may be impacting the child’s development or functioning.

BSI provides school-based behavior and music therapy services to local public, private, and charter schools. Delivering these services in the school setting provides the opportunity for our staff to support students where they need it most. Services are individualized and focus on the specific needs of the students, staff, and administration.
